Significance of the festival

It is mentioned in Quran Sharif that when Ibrahim was about to kill his son Ismail, Allah replaced Ismail with a lamb. His son was saved and also Ibrahim was gifted with prosperity and happiness by Allah.
Difference Between Eid-Al-Adha & Eid-Ul-Fitr
These both festivals are the most important festivals of Islam. But Eid-ul- Fitr is celebrated as the feast to mark the end of the fasting and the holy month Ramadan.
When Is Eid-al-Adha 2019?
The Muslims follows the Lunar calendar and according to which the festival will start in the morning of 11th August and will end in the evening of 15th August. It will be observed on different days in different countries but must be between 12th August to 15th August.
This festival takes place on the 10th day of the final month of the Islamic calendar named as Dhu-al-Hijjah. It is the last and the significant month of the Islamic calendar. By the end of it, every abled body adult has to complete Hajj once in their lifetime.
Celebration of the Festival
Since this festival commemorates the sacrifice of Ibrahim so all Muslims on this day give Qurbaani of a lamb and include it as the food in the feast. There are many other things which marks the celebration and they are listed as follows.
- In hajj, Muslim pilgrims throw a stone towards the symbolic devil represented by Jamarat known as Burning Coal on the last day of the pilgrimage.
- All Ivorian Muslims pray during the first day of the Muslim festival of Eid-Al-Adha in Abidjan.
- Some Muslims attend morning prayer in Industrial wasteland of Parco Dura in Turin.
- Muslim Hajj pilgrims start to pray around the holy Kaaba at the Grand Mosque. This is on the first day of Eid al Adha in Mecca.
- Men hug each other after offering Eid al-Adha prayers outside of the Shah-e-Dushamshera mosque in Kabul.
Which Food is Eaten During Eid-al-Adha?
This Eid is also known as salty Eid. This is because the main food items in the feast are predominantly Savoury which also includes the animal that was sacrificed during the observance. Arabian parties named as Maa’moul are also eaten during the festival. These are made using ingredients such as dates and nuts. These are often served in a ball or cookie shape.
