                  This year, the Open Championship is considered to be the 148th Open Championship. The tournament is scheduled for 18 to 21 July at Royal Portrush Golf Club in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. This competition is also the second Open Championship at the course, which has been held after the first in the year 1951, that is 68 years ago.

Tiger Woods is also going to be playing in his first PGA Tour event after his disappointing performance at the U.S. Open. The Masters champion is going to be among a total of three golfers who have fixed their aim to win their second major of the year, a list that also comprises of Brooks Koepka (PGA Championship) as well as Gary Woodland (U.S. Open).

The 2018 champion has yet to win on the PGA Tour this year, even though he challenged Woods at Augusta. If he is going to win again this year, then Molinari will be the first golfer to repeat as British Open champion after Padraig Harrington in the year 2008.

2019 British Open Championship Contenders

There are going to be top 31 players in the World Golf Rankings who are going to take part in this competition for the championship title. The most notable names in this competition comprise of Woods, Koepka and McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Justin Rose as well as Bryson DeChambeau.

The field is also going to feature a total of 19 of the top 20 players in the FedEx Cup standings and some of them are as follows: Matt Kuchar and Xander Schauffele, these two have won two PGA Tour events each this year.

The Defending champion Molinari is also going to be among the former winners who are playing in this tournament such as Tom Lehman (1996) and Paul Lawrie (1999), Henrik Stenson (2016) and Jordan Spieth (2017).

2019 British Open Championship Prize Money

This year, the winner is going to get $1,935,000, which is 18 percent of the total purse i.e., $10.75 million. This year, the purse has been increased from the last year i.e., $10,500,000 and the champion of last year that is Molinari has collected $1.44 million for his win in the year 2018.
