
On Wednesday night show, MSNBC host Chris Matthews said that President Trump with his Fourth of July celebration may perhaps be violating the Declaration of Independence.
At first, Matthews started recollecting the introductory of the nation’s founding document and said, “Tomorrow we celebrate the high human standards of our founders. We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,”
He then further added, “The Fourth of July is therefore because of these words, essentially the celebration of American ideals, of equality, of national unity, of freedom from a bullying government, of the dignity of the individual person.”
In the upcoming President Donald Trump’s July Fourth celebrations, there are going to be a small number of M1 Abrams tanks as well as other armored vehicles to be participating in Washington on Thursday.
This year’s event is also being referred to as a “Salute to America,” and it is going to feature fireworks, music, military flyovers, as well a presidential speech at the Lincoln Memorial, though storms threaten to rain on the parade. On the other hand, there are many people who have accused the president of politicizing the holiday.
Matthews further said, “Yet it is on this Fourth of July and in this city that this president has decreed that a procession of combat tanks will line the capital, while the president speaks to the nation flanked by the country’s highest-ranking military chiefs,”
“For the first time in the history of our democratic republic, we are being instructed to honor not the values of our Declaration of Independence, but the power of the military and, this must be said, the grandeur of Donald J. Trump’s personal self. There is, of course, a danger being risked in such a promenade tomorrow.”
On the other hand, President Trump is calling his event a “Salute to America,” honoring the armed forces, and he is also going to speak at the Lincoln Memorial in front of a ticket-only, VIP crowd of Republican donors, administration and campaign officials.
Trump while also admitting that measures would need to be taken in order to protect infrastructure said, “I’m going to be here and I’m going to say a few words and we’re going to have planes going overhead, the best fighter jets in the world and other planes too and we’re gonna have some tanks stationed outside,”
Trump further added, “You’ve got to be pretty careful with the tanks because the roads have a tendency not to like to carry heavy tanks so we have to put them in certain areas but we have the brand new Sherman tanks and we have the brand new Abrams tanks,”
In the end, Matthews also warned that violence may possibly arise in the middle of those who are supporting the president’s celebration of Fourth of July and those who are against it. Members of the Proud Boys as well as Antifa are expected to show up, as per to the Quartz.
