'Madea Family Funeral' Tops Box Office On Friday With Stellar $9.2M

Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral had a great opening to a stellar 9.2 million at Friday box office. It is enough to bury the competition. This puts the film in the competition with holdover How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World for weekend crown.

Both movies have their expectations as to earn $25 million to $26 million. If performing remarkably it earned more than that then it would be Perry’s fourth-best opening. This is because he and Lionsgate bid farewell to the popular Madea franchise, as well as their over film deal.

Madea Family Funeral, falling over expectations, is the 11th installment in the cult favorite series. The series commenced 15 years ago with Diary of a Mad Black Woman. The gross on Friday includes$1.1 million in Thursday previews. Perry directs and produces in the latest film and stars reunion turns into a horrible nightmare.

This is because Madea and the crew travel to backwoods Georgia and unexpectedly have to plan a funeral. This funeral threatens them to reveal the solicited family secrets. In this movie by Perry, Cassi Davis and Patrice Lovely are also stars.

Films in the Queue For Great Collection

On the other hand, Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon 3 grossed $6.5 million. The collection includes the amount on Friday. In addition to this, the picture seemed to decline in the second week. It lost 53 to 55 percent of its collection in the next week.

The movie which is holding at number 3 is the Alita: Battle Angel. The troubled James Cameron produced the film. The film holds position when it comes to the ranking of box office collection. It projects to gross $6.8 million for the weekend. The Lego Movie 2: The Second Chapter is to come in No.4 with $6 million.

Neil Jordan and Focus Features’ thriller Greta, starring Isabelle Huppert, Chloe Grace Moretz, and Maika Monroe, also opens nationwide this weekend. The movie too has the opening in this weekend.T he movie which has made its world premiere in the year 2018 Toronto Film Festival, looks to open to a muted $4.7 million.

The movie did not stand first in the box office collection ranking but has a great premiere. Greta revolves around a young New York City restaurant hostess whose chance meeting with an older French woman has unforeseen — and creepy — consequences for herself and her roommate.

Jordan’s film looks to its position on number 5 unless the Oscar winner Green Book beats it. The Green Book expanded its theatre counter following the best picture victory in February. A Star is Born is also going to rerelease with 12 minutes of new footage following Lady Gaga’s Oscar win for the song “Shallow”. The best picture in animations victor Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is adding about 1700 runs.

Elsewhere, fans of Imax theaters get treatment to a limited run of the critically acclaimed film. In 2019, Sundance Film Festival documentary Apollo 11 is the film with a claim. The Neon and CNN Films doc, directed by Todd Douglas Miller, features never-before-seen film footage of NASA’s historic mission to land a man on the moon.

Apollo 11 is on course to earn $1.3 million, a strong showing for a doc. It opens in additional theaters next weekend.
