'Green Book' Scores Biggest Post-Oscar Box Office Bump In 10 Years!

             Director Peter Farrelly’s Green Book was able to score the biggest post Oscar bump of any best picture. It has been after eight years in the US box office. The Amblin and Participant Media dramedy grossed about $4.7 million in 2641 cinemas between 1-3 march. It is the 16th-weekend release after the much debated victory at 91st academy awards. No other movie other than this has won this much post Oscars.

The King’s Speech scored a weekend gross of $6.2 million from 2,386 cinemas following the Academy Awards in 2011. It is also comparable to $2.3 million for The Shape of Water, last year’s winner, and roughly the same amount for Moonlight two years ago. Spotlight, Birdman, 12 Years a Slave and Argo prior to it earned $2 million on the first post Oscar award. There is also a movie with a better collection of $3.6 million named The Artist which was the winner in the year 2012.

The original story depicts a relationship between real life classical musician Don Shirley, who was black, and his Italian-American driver as they drive through the segregated South of the 1960s.

Green Book Box Office Is Booming After, Oscar Wins-

When the movie was released it did not have much expectations but it earned the great success and also many awards lately. Green Book, starring Viggo Mortenson and Mahershala Ali won the best actor supporting male and female though it has the backing of Hollywood studio. The award show attention to the movie Green Book has played a key role in the success of it. The first movie released in the mid of November and struggled largely until it won the Golden Globe Awards. It won the award for best comedy in early January.

As we into the weekend of the Globes, Green Book’s cume was $35 million. The film had been underperforming throughout winter but winning awards lately made it to be in the race of redemption. Jeff Bock of Exhibitor Relations says that it has won ultimate box office triumph. If the audience thinks of a question that Is Oscar better than the Blackman and The Favorite?  The voting members of the academy awards will decide this. They also came to the conclusion that it was better.

The post Oscar glow was shown in the Warner Bros. movie Star Is Born which rereleased on Friday with some additional changes. The additions include 12 minutes of footage with an original song from Lady Gaga. The film was able to earn $1.9 million for the weekend for a domestic total of $212.9 million. Ditto for Sony’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which nominated in the Oscar for best animated feature. The picture scored $2.1 million as it swung to $187.4 million domestically.
