As we all know that the streaming video environment is getting crowded now. It is that AT and T’s Warner Media has announced plans to launch the newly dubbed HBO Max. It’s own direct to consumer video service is featuring many of the assets from the $85 billion purchase of Time Warner in 2018. The long list of TV shows and movies is at its disposal as HBO Max has plenty of potentials. There are many details about the services and offers which are not revealed. Here is everything we know about it so far.
How Much will it cost?
WarnerMedia has started its planning for the upcoming Netflix competitor, HBO max. It is the one who underwent a major overhaul in early June 2019. There is a report from The Wall Street Journal which claims that AT and T’s service will wrap up all the Warner Media properties into a single streaming service. The cost for this is estimated to lie somewhere in between $16 and $17 in a month. It is a big change because earlier AT and T’s announced that it would offer three tiered streaming service which will divide the content into different parts between television shows, movies, and original productions.
HBO costs about $15 on its own through cable providers or HBO’s own streaming package, HBO Now, a $17 plan could be a great value for existing HBO subscribers. Netflix’s standard package costs about $9 per month and a Hulu subscription is for $6 and Disney Plus will set you back in $7.
Launching Date
The HBO Max streaming service is expected to launch in beta later in 2019 with an official release which is coming in spring 2020. In addition to this, the Wall Street Journal says that AT& T and Warner Media might offer a second cheaper subscription plan.
Will 4K be Supported?
There is no update regarding whether HBO max will offer streaming video in 4K or High Dynamic Resolution(HDR). Currently, the streaming services on HBO do not offer either of the high-resolution formats. Since Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and also the upcoming Disney+ services all offer 4K streaming video then this is the reason to believe that Warner Media will need to do the same to stay competitive.
What Shows and Movies will it Include?
HBO Max will have 10000 hours of content at launch which includes every episode of friends as well as the entire run of /Fresh Prince of BelAir and Pretty Little Liars. The service will also be the exclusive streaming source for all the new Warner Bros. drama produced for the CW network which is beginning with the fall 2019 season that is featuring the premieres of Batwoman and another Riverdale spinoff, Katy Keene. It includes HBO’s original series including Veep and The Larry Sanders Show. It will also include the films from Warner Bros. like Harry Potter based Wizarding World Franchise, Godzilla and King Kong’s shared Monster Verse Films and also Lord of the Rings franchise.
What about Dc’s Universe?
It is still unknown how the launch of HBO Max will affect Warner Media’s existing DC Universe platform that offers all the series and films along with the original content. It includes a vast library of digital comics as well as original series like Doom Patrol and Titans.
