ICC World Cup 2019 New Zealand Squad, Fixtures, Timing, Venue: New Zealand on Wednesday announces its 15-man squad for this year’s ICC World Cup 2019, with rookie Tom Blundell’s inclusion as back-up wicketkeeper which in other words you can say was the only real surprise.
The Black Caps who gave the great competition to Australia in the previous 2015 World Cup edition but couldn’t manage to win the tournament and Australia won by 7 wickets. Though they lost the previous season but this was the first time that they even made to runner-up and that’s why there is a huge expectation with the Black Caps as their performances are improving day by day. New Zealand is currently third in the one-day rankings, behind England and India.
Coach Gary Stead said the Kane Williamson-led side had frequently shined at the top level and he was self-assured the steadiness would sparkle through at the competition in England and Wales.
He said, “We’ve got a squad here of 15 players that we think can give us a really, really good chance of going far into the tournament.” He further added, “If we play close to our potential, then hopefully we can do New Zealand proud.”
Wellington keeper Blundell was selected after Tim Siefert, the consistent back-up to first-choice gloveman Tom Latham who broke his finger last month in a national match. While on the other hand, Blundell, who has two Test caps, will probably make his one-day international debut at the competition, his role is going to be on the edge if Latham stays fit.
Mitchell Santner is going to be the New Zealanders’ primary spinner, with Ish Sodhi edging Todd Astle to claim the following slow bowling spot.
Coach Gary Stead said, “(Selecting) the spinners were very tough, and both had signs at times that they should’ve been the one that was selected… but at the end of the day that’s my call to make.”
The most awaited ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 will be held from next month. This year world cup tournament is going to be the 12th edition, commencing from 30th May 2019 to 14th July 2019. England and Wales are going to be the host country for 2019 Cricket World Cup.
