After a remarkable win over Pakistan, team India is all set to carry on their ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 campaign. After a five day gap, team India is going to face-off Afghanistan today on June 22, Saturday, at The Rose Bowl, Southampton at 3:00 PM IST.
India is eyeing for easy points against winless Afghanistan which will also lead India to nine points from seven.
Team India played its opening match on 5 June 2019 against South Africa at Rose Bowl, Southampton, where India won by 6 wickets. South Africa scored 227/9 in 50 overs, on the other hand, India scored 230/4 in 47.3 overs. India vs Australia was the second match of team India in ICC World Cup 2019 where India won by 36 runs. The third match of team India was against New Zealand which was abandoned due to heavy rain. The last match played by team India was against Pakistan where India won by 89 runs (DLS method).
Vijay Shankar said after winning against Pakistan, “Last game gave me some confidence, and especially playing against Pakistan, making my debut against them. It was a very special thing for me, performing under pressure and coming out good.”
Talking about Afghanistan, they didn’t have won a single match in 2019 ICC World Cup yet. The opening match of team Afghanistan was held on 1 June 2019 against Australia at County Ground, Bristol, where Australia won by 7 wickets. Talking about the second match of the team was played on 4 June 2019 against Sri Lanka at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, where Sri Lanka won by 34 runs. The third match of Afghanistan was against New Zealand where New Zealand won by 7 wickets and the next match was also won by South Africa by 9 wickets (DLS method). Their last match was against England, where England won by 150 runs.
Gulbadin Naib said, “But if you look for the last four games, we didn’t do good anything. We didn’t do well. So that’s why we lost the game. But we’re trying to put good things about the match on the day, but it’s our bad luck.”
Rahmat Shah on the other hand also needs 24 runs to surpass Asghar Afghan and to turn out to be Afghanistan’s third-highest run-getter in ODIs.
