The change came just before IPL 2019 auction in a function where the owners of Delhi Capitals, GMR Group and JSW Sports unveiled the new name as well as the new logo.

Delhi Capitals History
The Delhi Capitals are the franchise cricket team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) that represents the city of Delhi. The team was founded in 2008 and was initially established as Delhi Daredevils (DD). The GMR Group and JSW Group owned the franchise. The home ground of the team is Feroz Shah Kotla Ground which is in New Delhi.
In the future of the 2018 IPL, 50% of the franchise ownership was reassigned to the JSW Group. The team changed its name in December 2018 from the Delhi Daredevils to the Delhi Capitals. Providing the information regarding the basis behind the change of the team’s name, Co-Owner and Chairman Parth Jindal said, “Delhi is the power centre of the country, it is the capital, therefore the name Delhi Capitals.”
On the other hand, Co-Owner Kiran Kumar Grandhi said, “The new name symbolizes Delhi’s identity and just like the city, we are aiming to be the centre of all action going forward.”
