About Black Widow
The upcoming superhero film, Black Widow, is based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. The movie is directed by Cate Shortland, written by Jac Schaeffer as well as Ned Benson and produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The movie is also intended to be the twenty-fourth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Development of a Black Widow film was actually started in April 2004 by Lionsgate, with David Hayter involved to write and direct. But sadly, the project did not move forward as well as the film rights to the character returned to Marvel Studios by June 2006.
Johansson was then cast in first of her MCU film, Iron Man 2 (2010), where he made her first appearance and after that, she was cast for several films set in the MCU. Marvel as well as Johansson has also expressed their interest in a prospective solo film many of the times over the next years, after which the development finally progressed with the hiring of Schaeffer and Shortland in the year 2018.

Black Widow is all set to hit the theatres on May 1, 2020, just around 10 months after the last MCU film, Spider-Man: Far From Home. This release date will also mark the longest gap in the middle of Marvel movies since 2012 and 2013, when a full year pass by between the release of The Avengers and Iron Man 3, back then.
