Good Friday in Holy book ‘Bible’

The sacred explanation of Jesus’ death on the cross, or crucifixion, his burial, and his resurrection, or rising from the dead, can be found in the following passages of Scripture: Matthew 27:27-28:8; Mark 15:16-16:19; Luke 23:26-24:35; and John 19:16-20:30.

Why is Good Friday celebrated?

Well, on Good Friday, Christians remember the death of Jesus Christ. The night before Jesus died; he and his believers had their last supper and then went to the Garden of Gethsemane. In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus prayed to his father while his believers slept nearby in the last hours.

After some time he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” (Matthew 26:39, NIV)

By “The Cup” he meant the death by crucifixion. Crucifixion was the most painful, feared and disgraceful method of execution in ancient times. But “The cup” that he meant was something even worse than the crucifixion.  Jesus Christ knew that when he dies, he would take all the sins and crimes on him and will set everyone free from the sins and crimes forever. That was the pain that Jesus suffered for setting everyone free from their sins and death.

He prayed more fervently, and he was in such agony of spirit that his sweat fell to the ground like great drops of blood. (Luke 22:44, NLT)

Jesus was arrested before the morning even began. In the daylight, he was fated. But before his death, Jesus was taken to Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor in Judea. Pilate found Jesus innocent but he became afraid of the crowd that wanted Jesus crucified, so he had to sentence Jesus to death

Jesus was beaten, mocked and was also struck on the head. He was made to carry his own cross. He was sent to the Calvary where soldiers put stake-like nails in his wrists and ankles that attached him to the cross. A label “King of the Jews” was placed on his head. He was hung on the cross for six hours. Bystanders insulted him and that was the time when he took his last breath.

Along with Jesus, two criminals were also crucified by his side. One was hung on his left and the other was hung on his right. As Jesus died, the surrounding became dark and earthquake occurred that caused the temple to rip in half. When soldiers came to Jesus, he was dead.  At the evening Joseph of Arimathea took Jesus body down from the cross and placed him inside a new tomb of his own.

Why Is Good Friday Called “Good”?

Jesus was the only one who separated us from our sins. Sins are the ones that separate us from God. Jesus sacrificed his own life and made everyone free from their sins and took everyone’s sins on him. He is the only one through which our sins can be forgiven. So, Good Friday is considered as good because on that day Jesus freed everyone from their sins.
