What Is Spider Totems: When the Spider-Man: No Way Home Film got released in most global markets, fan theories began to surface as the film raised far more questions than it actually answered. From bringing the multiverse to the big screen to returning fan-favorite characters, Spider-Man: No Way Home is a love letter to Spider-Man as he’s finally been able to play the character well since his introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, some central scenes in the film need to be answered. However, one of the most burning questions that still remains unanswered is how Spider-Man was able to control his physical form despite being separated from him in the fight against Doctor Strange. While most fans think it’s Spidey-Sense, we think it might be a bit more complicated.

Before the premiere of the film, the first trailer for no way home had revealed that Spider-Man and Doctor Strange have opposing agendas, which was further confirmed when the Sorcerer Supreme briefly expelled Peter’s astral form from his physical form. Surprisingly, Parker’s physical form was still able to act on its own when Doctor Strange attempted to retrieve Peter’s boxed spell. Despite popular belief that Spidey-Sense was at work, it was most likely an insight into the more mystical myth of spider totems.

What Are spider totems?

In the comics, the Spider-Totems are a special class of supernatural beings widespread throughout the multiverse and connected to the web of life and destiny. These beings often take on physical avatars for various reasons. It is also revealed that Spider-Man, aka Peter Parker, is an incarnation of a spider-totem named The Other. Likewise, other avatars of various spider totems are Cindy Moon (silk), Benjy Parker, Anna-May Parker, and several other Peter Parkers from various universes. As the incarnation of the spider-totem known as “The Other,” Peter Parker has demonstrated the ability to consciously allow his spider-like side to take control of his body to act purely on instinct.
What does this Mean for the MCU?

It may be too early to make Peter Parker’s connection to the larger world of Spider-Totems, but it certainly makes sense to start fleshing it out if the MCU ever wants to jump into the Spider-Verse storyline in the near future. Which has already starred two different Spider-Menno way home In collaboration with Peter Parker of The Netherlands, it sets the stage for a full Spider-Verse story by introducing the psychic vampire Morlun as the next big villain for the future Spider-Man movies. The overwhelmingly positive response to the concept of the multiverse and multiple Spider-Men is certainly an opportunity to explore the much larger, more exciting, and darker Spider-Verse.
