The Genesis Open is a professional golf contest on the PGA Tour that is held in southern California. The tournament was first played in 1926 that is 93 years ago. Initially, it was named the Los Angeles Open. Then it was renamed ‘Northern Trust Open’ and ‘Nissan Open’. The tournament is played annually in February at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades. This tournament is a concluding event of the Tour before the Tour moves east to Florida.
Since the year 1973, the tournament has been held at Riviera continuously. Hyundai Motor Group that is South Korea-based Company has taken over the sponsorship of the game from 2017. The initial sponsor of the Los Angeles Open was Entertainer Glen Campbell. Later the sponsorship was taken over by Nissan Motors. Before the Hyundai Motor Group, the sponsor of the tournament was Chicago-based Northern Trust Corporation.
The Genesis Open 2019 started on 14 February 2019 and ended on 17 February 2019. It took place at the Riviera Golf Course. It had a purse amount of US $7.4 million. The event ended on Sunday and J.B Holmes carried the trophy with him. This week the weather was moderate in Southern California.
