The series which was aired on ABC for two seasons is now going to air on Netflix from third season onwards.
Designated Survivor tells the story of Thomas Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland), who is an American politician named as the designated survivor for the State of the Union address, who all of a sudden come up from the position of U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development to President of the United States after a blast kills everybody ahead of him in the presidential line of run. Kirkman deals with his inexperience as head of state while considering finding the truth behind the explosion.
About Designated Survivor
The project of Designated Survivor skipped the pilot stage and was ordered directly to series on December 14, 2015, followed by an official declaration on May 6, 2016. The first episode of Designated Survivor was premiered on September 21, 2016, to the viewers of more than 10 million. Just after eight days, a complete season order was declared.
The series was then repeated for a second season on May 11, 2016, which was premiered on September 27, 2017. On May 11, 2018, after two seasons ABC annulled the series. On September 5, 2018, Netflix and Entertainment One declared that they had grasped an agreement to pick up Designated Survivor for a third season of 10 episodes with the latter being only in charge for production of the series. The third season is all set to premiere on Netflix on the month of June this year.
When will Designated Survivor Season 3 is Going to be Released On Netflix?
The filming of the third season of Designated Survivor finished in the month of February 2019. Actor Kal Pen through his tweet also confirmed the “last day” of filming on 12th February.

On the other hand, Netflix has also confirmed that the third season of Designated Survivor is going to be released on Friday, 7th June 2019.
What May Possibly Happen in Designated Survivor Season 3?
The official Netflix outline for third season states, “President Kirkman will face a political reality… campaigning. What does it take to make a leader? What price will he be willing to pay? This season will explore today’s world of campaigning, smear tactics, debates, campaign finance, and ‘fake news.’ Democracy, as we know it, will hang in the balance.”
Sutherland said in a recent interview, “Next season would undoubtedly have to be the beginning of an election [campaign] – just the timing alone would dictate that and then I think you’re going to have to deal with a character who has to make the decision if he really wants to run in the first place.”
He also further added, “He’s gone through the loss of his wife. He’s spent less and less time with his children, and the one thing that character valued more than anything at the very opening of that show was his family – and it’s been not that slowly pulled apart. So, there are more decisions that will have to be made.”
