Australian Open 2019: Serena Williams & Andy Murray Confirmed For Tournament

  Serena Jameka Williams, an American professional tennis player, will make her return in 24th grand slam title at the Australian Open in January. Serena Williams (37-yr-old) had won the game for the 17th time when she was eight weeks pregnant in 2017. In the final, she beat her sister Venus and won the grand slam. Her daughter Alexis Olympia was born in the following September after her win.

“Serena Williams, currently ranked 16, will make her highly anticipated return to Melbourne for the first time since winning in 2017 when eight-weeks pregnant with baby Alexis Olympia,” said Craig Tiley, tournament organizer.

Williams returned after giving birth to her child and reached the Wimbledon and U.S. Open finals. Unfortunately, she lost both tournaments and left of Australian grand slam singles titles. Her final match previous season was at Flushing Meadows, where her loss to Naomi Osaka was outshined by her controversial rant with umpire Carlos Ramos.

Before heading to Australia for Melbourne Park title at the Hopman Cup in Perth, Serena Williams will play an exhibition match in Abu Dhabi in the last week of the year.

The coming Australian Open 2019 is a Grand Slam tennis tournament which began from 14th January 2019. The tournament will conclude on 27th January 2019. The tournament will be held at Melbourne Park, a sports site in the Melbourne Sports and Entertainment Precinct in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Australian Open 2019 will become the 107th edition of the Australian Open and the 51st in the Open Era as well as the first Grand Slam of the year.

The tournament of Australian Open 2019 will comprise of various sports events for qualified players in singles, doubles and mixed doubles. Caroline Wozniacki will focus on her maiden grand slam title defense at Melbourne Park. Tiley also said about Caroline, “It’s always special to see our defending champions — Caroline had her first Grand Slam win here last year so will be keen to start 2019 on a high.”

Roger Federer, the Reigning champion is aiming for making a record after winning men’s singles crown for the seventh time. Tiley said, “And of course Roger Federer has special memories of Melbourne, having won here six times something only Novak (Djokovic) and Roy Emerson have done in the past.”

He further added, “I’ve been in touch with Rafa and he’s back to full fitness after cutting his season short after Paris and can’t wait to arrive in Australia.”
