Amazon opens second office in Vancouver

The online retailer Amazon announced Friday it would open a second office in Vancouver – but it is not the coveted “second head office” that has recently been the subject of a North American application contest.

The new office will be located in the downtown area and will hire 1,000 more employees.

Amazon opened its first office in Vancouver in 2015. It now has more than 1,000 employees, mostly software development engineers.

British Columbia Premier John Horgan said it was a big day for employment in the province.

Vancouver is part of a group of Canadian cities that have applied to Amazon in hopes of hosting its second North American headquarters, a $ 5 billion project.
